I can't wait until our vacation next week. As pretty as the snow is, I'm just craving outside adventures.
But since it's snowing, I thought I'd share some pictures from Benjamin's first sledding experience! The day after his birthday, we still had snow on the ground and all of the grandparents still in town... so we headed across the street to our large grassy area/floodplain and gave it a go. The baby is only one, so we definitely weren't going down anything steep, but it was a first sledding experience nonetheless.
Side note on the sled: purchased at Costco the winter Andrew died. We were cooped up in the house crying pretty much nonstop and decided to get outside one day and go sledding. It was our first winter in IL and I was obviously no longer pregnant. Sad, angry, emotional. Sledding seemed appropriate. At least there weren't any babies at the sled hill. Grief is so weird.
Back to the future, the little brother, and his proud parents and grandparents.
Yes, I'm wearing rain boots. I have those (waterproof!), two pairs of Ugg boots (which both grandmas were wearing) and no snow boots yet. I'm in the market and really like these. Anyone have any they love to recommend? Maybe I'll wait til summer and get them half price... it is almost spring, after all. You wouldn't know here in Chicago today. Hmph. |
The proud grandparents: My parents on the left & Ray's parents on the right |
My parents had never been sledding. Southern Californians aren't much for snow. Fun that their first times were with Benjamin. :) |

This is so great! Your parents crack me up. :) I can't remember the last time I went sledding...
Glad Benjamin had fun! BTW, those boots are cute!
How fun!!! Sledding is the best!
Those boots I love! Need some for Colorado the end of March and we should be getting our dividend amount from REI soon...Ben might try and say he gets to spend it though...we will see!!
Oh so cute. Great photos. My first sledding experience was in college. This Arizona native doesn't have much experience with snow.
Do not get me started on the first week in March here.....20 inches of snow on the ground.
20.
Love those two books btw, have read and re-read them over and over to the girls.
Have fun on your vacay!
Oh and am on day 20 of the Shred tomorrow.
And I had oreos tonight.
Sigh.
What a great experience for both sets of Grandparents and Benjamin!
I can't believe you've managed without snow boots for so long, though I guess winter 2011 you hermited after losing Andew (as I did after Jack) and last year you were pregnant/had a newborn and now it's this year. Yup.
I think I sent you the pair I had but in all honesty I'm back to lazy uggs because they are comfy-cozy. ha
Love the pictures. And love that the grandparents really jumped in and participated!
We don't get much snow here, so we didn't buy any snow boots for Addalee, plus they're expensive, and she probably wouldn't get to wear them much. Or so I thought. We've had a couple of decent playing snows and I've had to put Target bags on her feet over her regular shoes. Yes, Target bags. We're that redneck. Sigh.
Get Sorels. I love mine and I didn't even get the cute furry ones. I was so tired of slipping around on snow and ice in Uggs. And you can trust me 'cause I walk on snow and ice A LOT.
1) You guys are adorable
2) Grief is SO weird.
3) Love those boots. I'd totally wait for them to go on sale. I mean, you've made it this long...
You guys are adorable!!
