No One Messes with My Boy

Alternatively titled: I yelled at a five-year-old today.

So here's the story. We were at the waterpark today trying not to melt in the 90 degree + humidity temps we've been having (yes, I'm complaining). We also wanted to get in some of the last days of our pool membership because they close down for the season starting Monday. Unfortunately, our fabulous water baby has very recently (this week?) decided that water is something to fear. Either that or he's been overloaded with pool time and is just over it. Instead, he spends much of his time wandering around the park. With his mama right behind him.

We walked into the locker room yesterday (by we, I mean me chasing him) and he proceeded to obsess over the showers and then found a large bathroom stall and pushed the door closed and yelled "potty" on repeat. Then he was off to the snack bar and the splash pad and the water slide area and the sand pit.

Similarly today, he found his way to the sand pit and I followed like his little minion. As I sat there in a chair observing his interactions with the other kids who were 5 and 6 (the mom said before leaving the area), I noticed the girl fill up her bucket of sand with water and promptly splash the entire bucket onto Benjamin's face.

No she di'int.

And then she did it again.

OH NO SHE DI'INT.

I marched over there and told her not to throw sand or water or any combination of the two into anyone's face. Especially not a 1-year old. And then I asked her what she had to say to him.

She apologized.

And then I moved my chair closer. To watch the little vermin child who was bullying my baby.

No more offenses were made, but I made a mental note of her precious little face. You know, just in case I needed to get a baby restraining order against her.

Atta girl. I feel I'm always having to parent other kids at the water park we go to.... But seriously kids, wait your damn turn on the slide! Especially if you crash into my two year old in his floatie!

And to do it with sand?! Ugh.

I woulda momma beared her butt too. Thankfully she apologized..could you imagine how bad you'd be fuming if the kid didnt? I've heard that kind of kid exisits..just hoping we never run into one.

Boo for the pool closing Monday, especially if temps are still up.

Oh no she di'int, for realz. Sounds like you handled it well.

What a little punk!! Things like that make me so mad. And sand? That's just hateful! Thankfully we haven't run into it yet, outside the home at least. Addalee somehow loves to pick on Abigail. Drives me bonkers! Didn't your Momma teach you better?!?! Oh wait, I am her Momma, and yes I did. Sigh.

Ha ha Molly!!!

I could't agree more! I had to school a four year old girl who splashed Lillian at the splash pad a couple weeks ago. Go Mama! Bullying is bullying and you have every right to protect your boy.

What is the playground-equivalent of a shiv... you know, without actually being a weapon? ha!

I have to contain my momma-instinct when kids hug Grace too hard because I know what is coming next... And it's my kiddo laying on her back with another kid on top of her. accidentally, and yet... makes me irritated and also so proud when she "fights" back. hahaa

Good for you! Really, the other child's mom should have had the good sense to parent her own kid and profusely apologize to you and B like any normal person. B knows his mama has his back!

I get really upset when children are mean to Avery at the park. Some little boy screamed "get away, little baby!" at her and one 5 year old (I think) girl moved Avery from an area of the park because SHE wanted to play there. Avery yelled about it and I was happy. :)

It's amazing to me how much our momma instincts kick in when when another child VERY ignorantly does something to our baby. It's also amazing how pissed off and defensive I get.. lol I would have went all kinds of crazy on that kid.. :)
